Technology in hearing care has improved greatly in recent years. Not only are hearing aids getting more and more different functions, they are also getting smaller and smaller. It has led to sometimes completely invisible hearing aids, meaning that there really is nothing at all behind the ear. In this article, we will tell you about the three most important types.
Invisible-In-Canal (IIC).
In fact, the word already leaves no doubt: these hearing aids are completely invisible. They are the smallest type of hearing aid. They are custom-made and sit deep in the ear canal, making them invisible to others. IIC hearing aids offer a more natural sound quality and are less susceptible to wind. These hearing aids are generally controlled via an app or remotely; they have no buttons on the device itself. They also have one – literally – small drawback: because of the small battery, you will need to replace it more often.
Completely-In-Canal (CIC).
Complete in canal hearing aids are a little larger than IIC devices. They are also custom made and are only visible when you would really look specifically into the ear. Normally, these hearing aids are also completely unobtrusive. CIC hearing aids do typically have program buttons and a volume control on the device itself, which some people find nicer than operating via an app.
In-The-Ear (ITE).
ITE hearing aids you will also sometimes come across as ITE (in-the-ear). These devices are even slightly larger. They are invisible from the front, but others can see them from the side. ITEs have the advantage of being easier to fit and longer-lasting batteries. In some cases they are even available with battery, and so you can just charge them. This is something that is not (yet) possible with IIC and CIC devices.
Functionalities of invisible hearing aids
You might think that invisible hearing aids have less functionality than behind-the-ear hearing aids purely because of their size. Nothing could be further from the truth. These highly sophisticated devices are capable of everything from connectivity to your devices to managing background noise, from optimizing music and speech to suppressing Tinnitus. Which hearing aid and which features are useful to you depends entirely on your needs and desires. The possibilities are endless.
