Hearing aids today can control the sound for you on a situation-by-situation basis. They recognize the difference between quiet and busy situations, between music and noise, and can suppress wind noise, for example. The less sound that “escapes,” the better they can adjust this and thus the better you hear. Therefore, in many cases we recommend fitting with ear pieces instead of a tip (dome).
Tips are fine in some cases because they leave the ear as open as possible which can be pleasant if, for example, your ears become quickly inflamed. However, in practice we often see that with some closure with an earpiece, for example, customers react much more enthusiastically! They are enthusiastic about the sound quality, but also about understanding. The hearing aid suddenly comes into its own much better and also sits more securely. Finally, hearing aids with earmolds also squeak or whistle much less.
Unobtrusive earpieces
Earpieces need not be noticeable at all. For example, there are the (bikini) life shells, which disappear completely into the ear canal because they barely make contact with the skin a minimal risk of allergic reactions and occlusion. The advantages of a (bikini) life shell are:
- Virtually invisible
- Minimal skin contact
- Just as little occlusion as tip-off
- Good heat dissipation
- Applicable for thick and thin hose
- Power version possible in case of heavy losses
- High wearing comfort
- Also possible with speaker hearing aids
- Acrylic or silicone version
There are also mini-earpieces. These are inconspicuous and completely close off the ear canal. The advantages of mini-earpieces are:
- Less visible
- Applicable for thin hose
- applicable to moderate hearing loss
